Death of Prince Alexander of Belgium
Els in the Netherlands sends this news update: “On November 29, Prince Alexander of Belgium died. The 67-year-old prince died of an acute pulmonary embolism.
“Prince Alexander was the eldest child and only son of King Leopold III and his second wife, Lilian Baels. Alexander was born July 18, 1942 in Laken (Brussels). He was the (younger) half-brother of the current king, Albert II . He was not in line for the Belgian throne.
“In 1957 Prince Alexander underwent surgery in Boston because of a heart problem. This was the reason for his mother, Princess Lilian, to found a cardiology foundation.
“In 1991, against his mother’s wishes, the prince married Léa Wolman. They kept the marriage a secret for seven years because of Princess Lilian. The couple had no children, but princess Léa had two children from a previous marriage.”
