Sneak peek: September 2011 royalty books

Next month will bring us a lot of new books on royal topics. Here’s a sneak peek. (As always, publication dates are subject to change.)

Queen Elizabeth II: Portraits by Cecil Beaton by Susanna Brown, illustrated by Cecil Beaton. Explores how photographer Beaton’s portraits shaped the monarchy’s public image.

Kate: Style Princess by Sara Cywinski. How Kate Middleton’s fashion choices evolved from conservative to chic.

The Women of the Cousins’ War: The Duchess, the Queen, and the King’s Mother by Philippa Gregory, David Baldwin, and Michael Jones. The lives of three women during the Wars of the Roses: Jacquetta, Duchess of Bedford; Elizabeth Woodville; and Margaret Beaufort.

All the King’s Cooks by Peter Brears. The massive kitchens at Hampton Court were built to supply the household of Henry VIII. This book dispels misconceptions about cooking and eating in Tudor England.

Caligula: A Biography by Aloys Winterling. Sets the notoriously brutal Roman emperor’s story into the context of the political system.

Lady of the English by Elizabeth Chadwick. Novel about two 12th century English royals: Adeliza, widow of King Henry I, and Empress Matilda, the king’s daughter.

The Royals: Prince Harry by C. W. Cooke. Graphic novel about Prince Harry’s life.

I’ll publish the full list of new royalty books on the Royalty.nu Books page on September 1.

If I could only read one of the books listed above, I would pick “All the King’s Cooks” because I’m fascinated by the Tudor era. Which book would you choose?
