Next month will see the publication of many new books about European and British royal history! Here’s your sneak peek. (As always, publication dates are subject to change.)

Charlemagne by Johannes Fried, translated by Peter Lewis. A biographical study of the Frankish king and emperor who shaped Europe’s destiny.

Edward II: The Terrors of Kingship by Christopher Given-Wilson. The reign of England’s King Edward II (1307-27) was a series of disasters almost without equal.

Scourge of Henry VIII by Melanie Clegg. Biography Marie de Guise, mother of Mary, Queen of Scots.

The Aztec Kings by Susan D. Gillespie. Stories of the dynastic history of the Mexica of Tenochtitlan reveal how the Aztecs constructed ideas about the nature of rulership.

The Autumn Throne by Elizabeth Chadwick. Fiction. As dowager queen of England, Eleanor of Aquitaine attempts to keep peace between her warring sons. This is the third book in a trilogy; the first two books are The Summer Queen and The Winter Crown.

Napoleon’s Last Island by Thomas Keneally. Fiction. Banished to the island of Saint Helena, Napoleon Bonaparte finds an unexpected ally in a spirited British girl.

The full list of new royalty books will appear on the Royalty.nu Books page on October 1.

If I could only read one of the books listed above, I would pick Charlemagne, although I’d like to read the biography of Marie of Guise, too. Which book would you choose?
